THIOSULFATES

Thiosulfates are liquid fertilisers that provide plants with a readily available and efficient source of sulfur, often combined with other nutrients like calcium, magnesium, or potassium.

Unlike traditional sulfate-based fertilisers, thiosulfates offer slow-release properties, which reduce leaching losses and improve the long-term availability of sulfur in the soil. This supports essential plant functions such as:

  • Enzyme activity
  • Protein synthesis
  • Chlorophyll production
  • Overall plant metabolism

Thiosulfates also have added agronomic benefits:

  • They can stabilise nitrogen, increasing nitrogen-use efficiency.
  • They help improve soil structure and reduce alkalinity, promoting a healthier root environment.
  • Their liquid formulation makes them ideal for fertigation and blended liquid applications.

Thiosulfates are a sustainable solution for improving crop performance, nutrient efficiency, and soil health.

Calcium Thiosulfate

CTS is a neutral to basic, chloride-free and clear solution containing 6 % calcium and 10 % sulfur (w/w).  An excellent source of calcium and sulphur, it can be applied to a wide variety of crops

Potassium Thiosulfate

KTS is a clear, nitrate and chloride-free solution containing 25% potash and 17% sulfur (w/w).  KTS can be applied by drip, sprinkler or flood irrigation. It may be blended with other fertilizers or applied as a foliar treatment on selected crops.

Magnesium Thiosulfate

MGTS is a neutral to slightly acidic chloride-free clear solution containing  4 percent magnesium and 10 percent sulfur (w/w).  It has the same characteristics of other thiosulfates where low salt-out temperature is desirable under cool weather conditions..

Ammonium Thiosulfate

When applied to soil, ammonium thiosulfate (ATS) breaks down into sulfate and elemental sulfur.

  • Sulfate is immediately available for root uptake.
  • Elemental sulfur is gradually converted to sulfate by soil bacteria, providing a slow-release effect that can last several weeks—depending on soil and weather conditions.

One of the primary uses of ATS is as a liquid sulfur source blended with urea-ammonium nitrate (UAN) solutions. This combination improves nutrient-use efficiency (NUE) and supports higher crop yields.

Sodium Thiosulfate

In the industrial sector, sodium thiosulfate serves as a dechlorinating agent in water treatment processes, neutralizing residual chlorine in drinking water and wastewater, which helps protect aquatic life and infrastructure. It is also utilized in the photographic industry as a fixer in developing photographs, and in chemical synthesis as a reducing agent in various reactions. These diverse applications highlight sodium thiosulfate’s role in supporting agricultural productivity, environmental management, and industrial processes.
